The Places of Wintermount: Dark Tales

In 510 AD, two years after leaving the Black Abbey, Aethelwulf and Conri were ready to start a family of their own.  The world of Wulfmagic was still on the fringes, and for their safety, they left the village of Upper Tyne behind them to build a Keep at the edge of the forest grove they named Frost Arbor.

In 515 AD, a survivor of the Abbey Fire brought them the box that contained the demon that tormented them, and they vowed to keep it from the world, hiding it in the cellar of their home and never mentioning it again.  Even their children did not know it existed, and when their son decided to leave the Keep in 680 AD and build a castle in the vast forest of Frost Arbor, the Keep was abandoned, and the demon in the box was left to rot with it.

The Keep saw no life until the grandson of Aethelwulf, Lord Bardou, sought refuge there with his captive prince, Faolan of Wulfhæfen.  The demon in the box was still not awakened, but its influence led Faolan to awaken his own darkness in its image, protecting them both long enough for the Prince to return home and reclaim the throne.

The Keep fell into disrepair, and a traveler found the box in the ruins of the once towering structure.  He brought the box to the village of Upper Tyne, where it was traded for a week’s stay at the inn, after which the whereabouts of the box and the demon were lost to history.
